The Department of Business Management is proud to celebrate Ms Jazmyn du Preez, who has been selected as one of the Top 20 Finalists in the EDHE Absa Innovation Challenge 2025. Jazmyn is currently a MCom Business Management student, supervised by Dr Jasmine Kinsman and Prof Chantal Rootman

Jazmyn, founder of JTD Holdings – FinAlign, has been recognised for her innovative solution that seeks to transform financial wellness for South Africans. FinAlign is a financial wellness application currently in development that acts as a personal financial coach, guiding users toward better financial decisions through step-by-step, AI-driven support.

What distinguishes FinAlign is its ability to address uniquely South African financial realities that many global applications often overlook. These include the pressure of supporting extended family members (commonly referred to as “Black Tax”), irregular and seasonal incomes experienced by freelancers, students, informal workers, and entrepreneurs, as well as the importance of multilingual accessibility to ensure that financial literacy is not limited by language.

Unlike traditional banking applications, which are largely transactional and often promote specific products, FinAlign takes a holistic and unbiased approach. It empowers users by providing a comprehensive overview of options suited to their goals. In addition, the app integrates gamification tools—such as challenges, points, and rewards—that make financial literacy practical, engaging, and habit-forming.

Beyond its individual users, FinAlign is designed for institutional integration. Universities can embed it into finance modules to give students practical financial management experience; NGOs can apply it in community programmes to promote financial literacy; and employers can include it in workplace wellness initiatives to reduce financial stress and increase productivity among employees. Most significantly, FinAlign is committed to bridging the gap for the millions of South Africans who are underbanked or financially excluded, by providing an accessible, affordable, mobile-first platform that enables individuals to budget, save, and build wealth sustainably.

Jazmyn’s selection as a Top 20 Finalist is a significant achievement, positioning her among South Africa’s most promising young innovators. She will advance to the National Finals on 25 November 2025, where she will showcase her work alongside other leading entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of innovation in South Africa.

We extend our congratulations to Ms Jazmyn du Preez on this outstanding achievement and commend her dedication to advancing financial inclusion and innovation
