Mr Sinaye Mtimba and Dr Jasmine Kinsman have embarked on an initiative to enhance and maintain the relationship between industry role players in the financial planning profession and students, by inviting a series of guest speakers to different forums in financial planning.


On 11 April, during the PGDip Financial Planning block week, Dr Kinsman invited Ms Simone Jonkers who is the deputy Master of the Port Elizabeth High Court. Ms Jonkers is responsible for deceased and insolvent estates as well as the registration of trusts. The students enjoyed the session where she shared some practical cases and gave insight into how the administration of estates work as it relates to the financial planning profession.

On 19 April, Mr Sinaye Mtimba invited Mr Claude Ackerman who is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP)® as a guest lecturer to his third-year Estate Planning class. The invitation was extended to the PGDip Financial Planning students, who could also see how estates are administered practically from the perspectives of financial planners.

Lastly, Mr Mtimba who is also the lecturer responsible for the Financial Planning Society (FPS), invited Mr Alex Blumberg who is a CFP ® and alumni to be a guest speaker at the FPS opening function. Mr Blumberg’s talk was about whether Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a threat to the financial planning profession. After a thoughtful and insightful presentation, Mr Blumberg concluded that AI is only a threat if one is a bad financial planner. Continued engagements with alumni, industry professionals financial planning students are planned for the rest of the year.
