We would like to extend our congratulations to Daniel Maybery who was named as the top achiever for the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning programme at the April 2024 School of Management Sciences awards ceremony.

When asked about his motivation for pursuing the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning, Daniel's response was both heartfelt and pragmatic. "I have a big heart, and I knew I wanted to help people," he shares. Recognising his passion for aiding others and his fascination with the intricate workings of money, Daniel saw an opportunity to merge these interests. "Money is what makes the world go around," he notes, highlighting his desire to alleviate financial struggles and empower individuals towards financial freedom.

However, Daniel's journey was not without its challenges. Like many students worldwide, he faced the disruptions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitating a shift to online learning. Yet, through sheer determination and a steadfast focus on his goals, he overcame these obstacles. "The thought of being average and not making a difference is what pushed me to keep working hard," he reflects.

Central to Daniel's success is his mastery of time management. By meticulously scheduling his activities and prioritising tasks, he ensures productivity while balancing academic demands with extracurricular activities and work responsibilities. His commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom, encompassing traits such as relentlessness and dedication—qualities he believes are indispensable for future success.

In the face of adversity, Daniel maintains his motivation by constantly reminding himself of his purpose. "Just remember why you started and what you are trying to achieve," he advises. Such clarity of purpose, coupled with disciplined action, forms the cornerstone of his approach to academic and professional endeavours.

For aspiring students seeking to emulate his achievements, Daniel offers sage advice: "Motivation is overrated as it fades away; discipline is the key to success." He emphasises the importance of paying attention to lecturers’ passions and leveraging that insight to excel academically.

As Daniel embarks on his professional journey, he assumes the role of Junior Portfolio Manager at Edge Financial Group, under the guidance of Mr. Edward Gutsche. Armed with a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Planning, Daniel's academic journey has laid a solid foundation for his future in the field.

Daniel Maybery's story serves as a testament to the transformative power of passion, perseverance, and purpose. As he continues to make strides in the field of financial planning, his unwavering commitment to helping others stands as an inspiration to his peers and future generations of students.
