The Department of Business Management, in collaboration with the Department of Dietetics, have developed a Bachelor of Commerce Food Service Management programme, the with majors in Business Management and Food Science & Service. The aim of this programme is to produce management professionals for the health and food service sector. Students will be taught to act as food service managers, who are well-grounded in business, financial and people management skills, but also able to solve specific health sector related problems within the food service industry.
CAREERS IN FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT
There is currently a shortage of food service managers within the health services food sector, and graduates will be able to ensure effective and efficient delivery of food services in the various health services and hospitality institutions.
A Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management opens up career opportunities in the following fields:

• Food and beverage manager
• Restaurant manager
• Customer service manager
• Food safety manager
CURRICULUM
The BCom Food Service Management curriculum consists of majors in Business Management, Food Science and Food Service. The qualification shall extend over at least three years of full-time study (No evening classes) on Nelson Mandela University South Campus.

MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
•Applicant Score of 390.
•National Senior Certificate (NSC) Grade 12 Mathematics of at least 50%.
•Minimum NSC statutory requirements for degree entry must be met.
•NOTE: There is currently NO extended programme for this degree.
